On site studio based music series reporting from the summer festivals with band interviews, features on the artists and the festivals themselves, as well as some excellent live music.
The summer music festival scene has become the highlight of the year for Irish people of all ages, with a great variety in the music and in the target audience of each event. With the massive growth in Internet music downloads and gossip, there is now a huge hunger for background information and features on local bands and international artists touring Ireland.
Each episode will be recorded for broadcast within days of each festival, with reports from events throughout the summer, including the Heineken Green Energy Festival, Hi:Fi and Electric Picnic. There is also the opportunity to broadcast extraordinary shows from indoor events throughout the year, concentrating on a particular gig, or on one particular band.
The show will be fully inter-active, featuring posts, reviews and blogs by the festival and home audience. The shows web site, which will be run throughout the year, has the potential to become the voice of the festival scene in Ireland. It will feature up-coming events, members’ reviews, and forums where fans can meet, chat and have their say on music and festivals, all of which creates content for the live broadcasts. No other site will have as much audience participation, matched with exposure on national television.
The show will be presented by a male and female tag team from an on site studio. They will be chosen from the massive pool of exciting new talent emerging in Ireland, and will have a passion for music and the festival scene. During each episode, they will be joined by bands, promoters, fans and all the other individuals who make the day possible. All of this will be inter-cut with features on the bands, reports from around the events and the best of the days live music.
A typical show will begin in the on-site studio with a run down of the day’s performances, moving onto a report from one of the presenters out and about, meeting fans and introducing the live bands. We cut back to the studio and an interview with one of the featured bands (including the best question suggestions from the fan site) and then a pre-recorded feature (Making The Music) following the presenters hanging out with the band as they record their latest album and prepare to go on tour.
We cut back to studio interviews with fans and festival organizers, followed by a short feature on the logistics of organising the event and the personalities behind it, and onto a Backstage feature, reporting on what the artists get up to in their downtime. One of the presenters will then present a short feature on smaller acts that have made an impression on them, including some studio interviews, followed Fan-Tastic, following a group of fans getting to the concert and enjoying the festival from start to finish.
The nature of the material will warrant repeats in the new year, to keep the buzz alive and warm peoples hearts during the long winter months. And of course there is an opportunity for a ‘best of’ DVD release at Christmas, with all the highlights, outtakes and things that could not be broadcast on TV.
The summer festivals provide the best in contemporary live music, showcased in an exciting and often epic fashion. It is then fitting that we have a show that celebrates all facets of these grand events, by providing the next best thing to actually being there, as well as added features and interviews to create the fullest experience possible.
