Probably not the most optimistic title to begin with after a short hiatus from the world of blogging (Electric Picnic and Portugal).
But its true.
You read the evidence, you come to understand the real problems we are facing as a global nation, you look into the solutions being proposed and actively pursued, you compare what is needed to what is being actually done and you think…. we are in a bit of a pickle to say the least.
We are looking at complete earth system collapse within….. 5 generations? Give or take.
We are not talking apocalypse. We are talking a drastic shift in the earths systems and it will take millenia for the earth to reach a state of stasis again. We were lucky as a species to have evolved at a time when the earth system was in pretty decent shape after a few shaky patches.
And with all our modern trinkets and mentalities, I don’t think we are prepared physically or psychologically for the challenge ahead. We are ’separate’ from the earth and its needs at a time when she needs the forces of contemporary global development to ease off a little and just let her breath.
And yet, we are at a potential crossroads in our relationship with her.
We have a global community, connected, with the information and the tools it needs to understand the earth (its greatness and its weaknesses) and to truly build a way of life that respects her.
The obstacles may very well prove to be too great. But God loves a trier. I mean come on. The pesky RAF against the mite of the Luftwaffe?!! Not in a million years Her Hitler! (and you thought I wasnt going to explain the picture).
So today I pitched an idea for a website to the Cultivate centre. I’m going to do it anyway but to do it with them would pretty much seal the deal for me. Its a perfect combination.
The concept is very similar to the Crewger site we are currently developing for filmmakers. On line social networking and project management matched with real world activity. I am tentatively calling it ‘Our Green Day’ but some cute bastard bought the name after I searched for it and found it available a few months back (note to self – buy regardless).
People give a shit. But they watch too much bad distracting TV and don’t feel empowered or connected enough the to real issues involved. This site is designed to reverse that culture.
Ill keep y’all posted. The site will go up regardless, just might take a bit longer on my own.
In the interim Ive decided against long winded posts. Short points. These will build to the doco that wants to be born – ‘State of Separation‘. It will come. Oh yes.
