Good news for Wallace & Gromit fans

Empire have a piece on the new Wallace and Gromit special to be aired on the BBC later this year (surely at Christmas time?). Regardless of all the Saturday moning cartoons and Disney-like features that I watched as a kid, these were the first pieces of animation that allowed me to see what an inventive and innovative a medium it truly is.

I could see how available and accessible the tool was. A couple of skethes on a note pad played in unison could make a point or convey an emotion as well as any Hollywood blockbuster. More importantly, everything within the piece is dependant on the imagination of the storyteller and the tools they choose to use. This allows for a beautifully varied tapestry on a global level, much more than in any other audio-visual medium.

Do yourself a favour and Google animation, or go wild on YouTube. Discover the tapestry.
